Jakarta , Past and Present

Jakarta known in an international world as Indonesia's Big City.

Many stories comes from this city, and also as Indonesian history.








The history of Jakarta itself starts from the small port in the north of Ciliwung River ( http://id.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ci_Liwung ) a place named Sunda Kelapa ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunda_Kelapa ) or in Bahasa we said a placed plant a coconut tree.

It was a famous port and had been known by all trader from all over the world. Such an European, China , Arabian. In addition the location of Indonesia in the middle of trade areas and  potentially used as transit place. Thats why in some Indonesian culture has a touch of foreign culture, like Arabian and Chinnese. And one of reason also why in Indonesia have many belief and region.

Back to the port, it was under control by Padjajaran kingdom, one of ancient kindom who ruled in Java island.



But on 22 June 1527 the port was defeated by Sultan Fathillah which is as that time ruled the kingdom of Demak. Demak (1475–1548) itself is one of big Moslems Kingdom at North Beach of Java. So the name of the port was changed to be JAYAKARTA , the named of prince who ruled in Banten, but some people called Jakarta . And untill nowdays in every 22nd June is celebrate as Jakarta Birthday

On 30th May 1619 the port was conquered by Dutch and the named of the port was changed into BATAVIA and annouced officially by the 1st governor general Jan Pieter Zoen Coen. It's applied during the colonization in Indonesia.

The named of Batavia is derived from " Bataviaren" the name of origin ancestor of Dutch and was firstly introduced by the dutch soldier.

Since that time the port was become more famous and become an enterance gate for Indonesian with the outer world and also become of the success places for trading.

And on 10th December 1942, after The Dutch lost his power in Java and The Japanese came to Indonesia with the same purpose also to take over the nation, the port was changed its name into JAKARTA because it's comes from one of the fort of Batavia bastion.

After the Independence era, in 1945 Jakarta is choosed as the capital city of the nation and grows as a metropolitan city till now, become the center of Goverment, Economy Activities, Intl' Bussiness and also Arts and Culture. For the regonal administrative, Jakarta divided into 6 municipalities which is East Jakarta , West Jakarta , South Jakarta ,North Jakarta and a Thousand Islands (Pulau Seribu) and headed by one governor who choosen by period.

Jakarta nowdays known as The Never Sleep City which always "keep alive" even in the late of night. Surrounded by a high building and many skycrapper, Jakarta become on of The Biggest City in Indonesia and a landmark for our nation.
